Two volleyball players earn conference honors

11:23 a.m., Sept. 12, 2006--The University of Delaware dominated the Colonial Athletic Association volleyball player of the week honors, with junior outside hitter Colleen Walsh named the conference player of the week and freshman middle hitter Kelly Matthias named the CAA rookie of the week.

The Fightin' Blue Hens went 3-0 on the week, as Walsh had 62 kills on 129 attempts with only nine errors. The junior also recorded seven total blocks and seven digs. Walsh leads the conference with 4.97 kills per game and is ranked second with 5.22 points per game.

Matthias led the Hens in blocks, averaging 1.73 a game last week. The redshirt freshman had a .388 attack percentage and averaged 2.0 kills per game. She is sixth among all CAA block leaders and second among freshmen block leaders.
