Delaware volleyball runs winning streak to 10

9:44 a.m., Sept. 11, 2006--With Colonial Athletic Association victories over George Mason University and James Madison University, the University of Delaware volleyball team has extended its record-setting winning streak to 10.

The Fightin' Blue Hens defeated George Mason 3-0 on Friday and rallied to defeat James Madison 3-2 on Saturday, with both matches played at Barbara Viera Court at the Carpenter Sports Building.

UD will attempt to remain unbeaten when it takes on Delaware State University at 7 p.m., Friday, at Barbara Viera Court.

In the victory over George Mason, the Hens won 30-22, 30-21 and 30-18. Junior Colleen Walsh had 20 kills while sophomore Kelly Gibson had nine kills and six digs. Junior Megan Welch tallied 40 assists and senior Heather Ranck had 12 digs, and freshman Kelly Matthias had eight kills and a game-high five blocks.

Against James Madison, the Hens had to rally, going 23-30, 30-28, 24-30, 30-15 and 15-9. Welch had 55 assists, Walsh had 23 kills and Gibson had 15 kills and 18 digs. Freshman Michelle LaLonde had 14 kills, Ranck had 23 digs and Matthias had eight kills and eight blocks.
