Football season ticket sales hit new high

Editor's note--As of Sept. 7, sales of football season tickets ended with a record 11,160 sold.

3:29 p.m., Sept. 6, 2006--For the third consecutive year, sales of season tickets for University of Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens football home games have set a new record. To date, 11,154 tickets have been sold, compared to the previous record of 11,133 tickets sold last year.

And, for the 13th straight time, it looks like it will be another sold out game when the Fightin' Blue Hens take on West Chester University at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept 9, at Tubby Raymond Field in Delaware Stadium for the 2006 season opener. The last two games against the Golden Rams at Delaware Stadium also have been sellouts.

Last year, attendance at The Tub averaged 22,177 per game, the second highest average in NCAA Division I-AA.

Delaware is the only school in NCAA Division I-AA that has averaged more than 20,000 fans for each regular home game over the last seven years.

“We are very excited about the support we are receiving from our fans,” Edgar Johnson, director of athletics, said. “Setting a record each of the last three seasons shows that our football program is highly valued and appreciated by the public.”

The Hens have compiled a 25-4 record at Delaware Stadium under Head Coach K.C. Keeler, including a NCAA Division I-AA national championship, two Atlantic 10 first-place finishes and the 2003 ECAC Team of the Year and the Lambert Cup.

In a season in which UD is encouraging fans of Delaware football to “Fill The Tub with Delaware Blue,” many of those watching the Hens will be season ticket holders.

“We are looking forward to having so many season ticket holders coming to our games this year,” Johnson said.

Another great way to catch the Hens in action is by purchasing individual game tickets. Single game tickets, which went on sale Aug. 1, are $19 for east and west grandstands and $14 for the north end zone. North end-zone tickets for fans ages 17 and under are $6.

Tickets are available at the Bob Carpenter Center or by calling (302) UD1-HENS, and from Kent and Sussex Counties by calling 1-800-695-HENS. Tickets also can be purchased from TicketMaster online at [www.ticketmaster.com] or by calling (302) 984-2000 in Delaware or (215) 336-2000 in Pennsylvania.

Parking prices are $10 per car, per game for general parking in designated nonreserved parking lots. RV parking, which must be purchased 72 hours before a game, is available at $60 per game. Group parking passes are available at $15 per car, with a minimum purchase of 20 group game tickets. Discounted group tickets are not available for the following games: Albany (Freshman Family Weekend), Sept. 16; Hofstra (Homecoming), Oct. 14; and Towson (Parents and Family Weekend), Oct. 28. For RV and group parking/tickets, call (302) 831-0606.
