Third annual ’Taste of Newark’ is sold out

A capacity crowd samples treats from scores of Newark restaurants at last year’s Taste of Newark celebration.

1:55 p.m., Sept. 15, 2006--Approximately 800 ticket holders will experience the very best in food and refreshments at the third annual “Taste of Newark” on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 8. Co-sponsored by UD, Newark Mayor Vance Funk and the Downtown Newark Partnership, the event will feature 36 Newark restaurants, 12 wineries and two breweries, as well as entertainment and the work of renowned artists on the lawn at Old College.

Executive Chef David Puser will supervise cooking demonstrations by the Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality from Chuz, Switzerland, and John Shields, host and chef of Public Broadcasting Service's (PBS) Costal Cooking, will demonstrate new recipes and autograph his latest cookbook. UD's Steel Drum Band will provide music for the event, and WJBR-FM vice president of operations and popular morning show host Michael Waite will be the master of ceremonies.

Attendees will be eligible to win the “Dine Around Newark” grand prize, valued at more than $1,200 in dining gift certificates from participating restaurants and will be able to place bids on silent auction items. Proceeds from the event will benefit UD's School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, the Downtown Newark Partnership, the Town and Gown Committee and the Newark Arts Alliance.

Participating restaurants include: Ali Baba, Bing's Bakery, Blackstone's Restaurant, Blue Crab Grill, Blue & Gold Club, Brewed Awakenings, Cacciatori, Caffe Gelato, California Tortilla, Cold Stone Creamery, Courtyard Café at UD, Cucina Di Napoli, Deer Park Tavern, East End Café, Grotto Pizza, Home Grown Café, Iron Hill Brewery, Joy Garden, Klondike Kate's, La Tolteca, Matilda's, Mayflower Japanese Restaurant, Newark Country Club, Newark Deli and Bagels, Newark Natural Foods, Pamela's Gourmet, Panera Bread, Pat's MVP, Saigon Vietnam Restaurant, Sante Fe Mexican Grill, Season's Pizza, Shaggy's on Main, the Korner Diner, Timothy's, UD Conference Services and Vita Nova.
