Police charge man in stabbing of UD student

2:56 p.m., Sept. 29, 2006--A 20-year-old University of Delaware student was hospitalized after being stabbed during a fight that occurred at 1:12 a.m., Friday, at the corner of North Chapel Street and East Cleveland Avenue, and Newark Police report that they have charged a 20-year-old Wilmington man in the incident.

Police said Bryan J. Oneschuk Jr. of Merrimor Court in Wilmington has been charged with assault in the first degree and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

Police said they responded to the scene of the fight and upon arrival found that the UD student, who police said was one of the participants in the fracas, had suffered a stab wound to his lower left chest. The victim was transported to Christiana Hospital and treated for the wound.

Police said Oneschuk was arrested on the scene, arraigned and given $60,000 unsecured bond. He was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
