Kyle Schmid selected CAA runner of week

UD’s Kyle Schmid has been named the CAA runner of the week.

9:50 a.m., Sept. 20, 2006--For the second straight week, a University of Delaware men's cross-country competitor has been named the Colonial Athletic Association runner of the week. UD senior Kyle Schmid is the most recent recipient, following his first-place finish at the Delaware Invitational held Saturday at White Clay Creek State Park.

Schmid follows fellow senior P.J. Meany, who was honored by the conference last week after capturing the individual title at the Hofstra Invitational. Schmid finished second in that meet.

In the Delaware Invitational, Schmid led the Fightin' Blue Hens to a team championship as UD had the first seven finishers to earn 15 points, easily outdistancing runner-up George Mason University with 78 points.

Schmid and the Hens will return to action in the University of Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational meet on Saturday in Minneapolis.
