Lunchtime technology series for faculty set

3:13 p.m., Sept. 27, 2006--A new noontime educational technology series, designed to introduce UD faculty to new technologies that can enhance learning in their classrooms, kicks off at 12:20 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 4, in 010 Smith Hall. The event will conclude at 1:10 p.m.

Sponsored by IT-User Services' PRESENT, the new “Let Us PRESENT” series will focus on new ways of using existing tools. Collegial sharing of ideas and experiences is encouraged. Feedback on the series also is encouraged to help shape topics to the needs and interests of participants.

The free technology sessions, which are slated for the first Wednesday of each month during the fall and spring semesters, will include light lunches of salads and beverages.

The inaugural lecture on Oct. 4 will be “Presentation Tips for PowerPoint and Keynote.” The session will present techniques to boost basic knowledge of PowerPoint, and participants will be given various models and tips that have proven to be effective in information retention of PowerPoint presentations.

The second lecture of the fall semester, set for Wednesday, Nov. 1, will focus on “MyCourses Shortcuts: WebDAV and the Content Module; Web Syllabus Templates.”

The third and final lecture of the fall semester, before the series picks up again in the spring semester, is set for Wednesday, Dec. 6. The topic is “Laptop tips and tricks for Macintosh and Windows users.”

Space is limited and registration is required for each session. To register, interested faculty members should go to [www.udel.edu/present/news/topics/letuspresent.html] and follow the online menu prompts.

PRESENT (Practical Resources for Educators Seeking Effective New Technologies) provides expertise and facilities to enable faculty and staff who teach at UD to enhance student learning through the use of technology. For more information, go to [www.udel.edu/present] or call (302) 831-0640.
