Blue Hen golfers ninth at Rutgers Invitational

UD’s Tyler Kupper shot 146 in the Rutgers Invitational.

11:49 a.m., Sept. 18, 2006--The University of Delaware golf team finished in ninth place at the Rutgers Invitational held Friday and Saturday. The Fightin' Blue Hens shot a team total of 590 to finish 22 over par at the par 71, 6337-yard course. Seton Hall won the team title with a two-day, 36-hole score of 574, six over par. Villanova finished four strokes back with a team total of 578, while Columbia and St. John's tied for third at 580.

James Madison was fifth at 584, followed by Longwood at 585, Binghamton at 587, Connecticut at 588, and UD. The Hens had a team total of 299 on Friday and 291 on Saturday.

Seniors Joe McLister and Tyler Kupper each shot 146 to tie for 20th place at four over par. McLister shot 76 on Friday and 70 on Saturday, while Kupper shot 73 each day. Sophomore Tommy Ellison finished in a tie for 23rd by shooting 74-73-147 for five over par, while freshman Jason Bernstein shot 76-75-151 to finish in a tie for 39th place at nine over par. Sophomore Steve Boerner tied for 69th by shooting 83-79-162 for 20 over par.

UD will return to action next weekend when Delaware competes in the Elon Invitational at the Sea Trail Golf Resort in Sunset Beach, N.C.
