Newark Film & Music Festival set Sept. 7-10

3:18 p.m., Sept. 7, 2006--The second annual Newark Film & Music Festival will be held Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 7-10, at the Newark Cinema Center in the Newark Shopping Center. This year's theme is bringing movies that matter back to the screen.

UD alums Lisa Lucas and Barry Schlecker are co-producers of the festival and the Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware hotel, Downtown Newark Partnership and 19 other local businesses are co-sponsors.

The festival includes films introduced by their filmmakers and a variety of regional musicians to entertain between screenings.

Movies to be screened include A Prairie Home Companion, Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont, Legend of God's Gun, a spaghetti western, and Half Nelson.

Legend of God's Gun will be introduced by co-writer and producer Kirkpatrick Thomas, and Patrick Stoner, WHYY-TV 12 film critic and UD faculty member, will introduce the regional premiere of Half Nelson, about an inspired but troubled teacher.

Documentaries include former Vice President Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth and Neil Young's Heart of Gold.
