No. 1 Maryland defeats UD field hockey team

UD goalkeeper Nikki Rhoades stopped 12 shots in a 3-0 loss to top-ranked Maryland.

1:34 p.m., Sept. 14, 2006--The top-ranked University of Maryland field hockey team ran its unbeaten streak to seven games as the Terrapins defeated the University of Delaware 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon in College Park.

The Fightin' Blue Hens, who have played four top 20 teams in their first six games, fell to 2-4. The only UD players who managed to get shots during the game were senior Kaili Kao and freshman Elizabeth Lewis. Junior goalkeeper Nikki Rhoades had a strong game for the Hens, stopping 12 of Maryland's 15 shots on goal.

UD will return to action Friday when the Hens face the State University of New York at Albany at 7 p.m. at Rullo Stadium. Albany is 4-2 following an 8-2 victory over St. Francis University of Pennsylvania last week.
