UD field hockey team falls to Rutgers in 2OT

Katie Evans scored two goals in the loss to Rutgers.

10:15 a.m., Sept. 11, 2006--The University of Delaware field hockey team fell 5-4 in double overtime to host Rutgers University on Sunday afternoon.

The Fightin' Blue Hens will return to action at 4 p.m., Wednesday, when they travel to the University of Maryland to meet the top-ranked team in the nation. The Terrapins, coached by former UD standout Missy Meharg, are 6-0.

Against Rutgers, UD got a pair of goals from senior Katie Evans, whose second score knotted the game at 4-4. Junior Molly Burke and sophomore Jessica Cortllino also scored for the Hens, and Stephanie Swain had a pair of assists. UD goalkeeper Nikki Rhoades had 13 saves.
