Blue & Gold Club offers fall events, classes

2:31 p.m., Sept. 20, 2006--A series of special dinners and a new Wednesday night wine tasting class are all part of the Back to Campus Specials being offered this fall at the Blue & Gold Club.

An Indian Summer Barbecue is planned from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 21. Cost is $19.50 for adults and $10.50 for children ages 5-11. The buffet menu will include marinated cucumber and tomato salad, grilled asparagus salad, redskin potato salad, baby spinach citrus salad, spicy barbecued chicken, grilled tenderloin kabobs, grilled hamburgers and hotdogs, grilled tuna steaks with tomato-mango chutney, Boston baked beans, buttered corn on the cob, fresh fruit salad and assorted desserts.

Dan Beggs, the Blue and Gold’s executive chef, will share autumn recipes and tips at an Autumn Harvest Cooking Class scheduled from 6-9 p.m., Monday, Sept. 25. Featured items will include brandied pumpkin bisque, baby autumn greens with cranberry vinaigrette, saga blue cheese baguette, pecan-crusted turkey breast with mango chutney mayonnaise and chocolate banana bread pudding with warm vanilla sauce. Cost is $28.95 a person.

A 35th anniversary dinner is scheduled from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5. Diners may choose sesame-crusted diver sea scallops with ginger-lime buerre blanc or sliced breast of duck with spicy fruit salsa as appetizers. Salad choices include baby mache salad with chopped eggs, grape tomatoes and charred tomato vinaigrette or an iceberg wedge with chopped bacon, grape tomatoes, crumbled bleu cheese and red wine vinaigrette. Entrée choices include poached fillet of salmon sabayon; filet of beef with morei sauce; or pan-seared herb-crusted free range chicken breast with sherried vin blanc. Dessert choices include poached pear stuffed with chocolate mousse over raspberry sauce or vanilla creme brulée.

An Octoberfest celebration is planned for Friday, Oct. 13, and a Halloween Spooktacular is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 26. Both events will be held from 5-8 p.m. A Friday night buffet and a Sunday morning brunch will be offered on Parents and Family Weekend. Seatings for the buffet will be available at 5, 6:30 and 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 27. The brunch will be offered at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 29.

The club’s popular Wine 101 class will be offered from 6-7:30 p.m., Wednesdays from Sept. 20-Oct. 11. Open to Blue & Gold Club members and the University community, cost of the first three classes is $12 each. Cost of the final class, which includes a graduation dinner with wine accompaniment, is $28.
