E-ZPass transponder covers show UD pride

2:03 p.m., Sept. 27, 2006--University supporters looking for new ways to show they're True Blue can now display their loyalty in the front windows of their cars.

Brand new toll-pass covers, sporty little shields for those mundane white E-ZPass transponders, are now available in two UD designs. For less than $10 UD fans can display the University's interlocking UD logo or UD mascot YoUDee right on their windshields, behind their rearview mirrors, for all to see.

The Highway Image Toll Pass Cover is an affinity product similar to a customized credit card or vanity license plate in that it shows the owner's affinity to a particular group.

“The toll-pass covers arrived on move-in weekend, and we're expecting them to be big sellers during Homecoming,” Jennifer Galt, manager of the University Bookstore, said. “They're a fun little accessory, a great way to show your UD pride, and would make great stocking stuffers.”

The toll-pass covers are approved by the Federal Highway and Safety Administration and the makers of E-ZPass. They do not interfere with the payment of electronic tolls and can also be used with other toll devices.

The covers are the brainchild of Owen Burns, an entrepreneurial inventor from New Jersey, who told the Courier-Post newspaper that he came up with the idea one day when he was “stuck in a traffic jam, surrounded by a sea of E-ZPass transponders” and realized they were “small, white canvases waiting for artistic interpretation.” The rest, as they say, is history.

UD toll-pass covers are available for $9.99 at the University Bookstore and will soon be available online at [www.udel.edu/bookstore]. For more information, call (302) 831-2637.
