Career Development Workshops for students 5:01 p.m., Sept. 14, 2006--For new students and students who have not declared a major, the Center for Counseling and Student Development offers a variety of Career Exploration Workshops this fall. “We are here to help students in the self-exploration process to determine their values, interests and abilities and how these interact with the working world so that students can make informed decisions about choosing majors and career paths,” psychologist Susan Rarick said. “We have sent e-mail to students we think could benefit from the workshops and encourage them to apply.” The workshops all will be held at the Perkins Student Center. The October series will be held from 3-4:30 p.m., Wednesdays, Oct. 4, 11 and 18, in the Ewing Room. The November series will be held 3-4:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Nov. 7, 14 and 28 in the Collins Room. An intensive half-day workshop will be offered from 9 a.m.-noon, Thursday, Dec. 7 (Reading Day), in the Ewing Room. Snacks and beverages will be provided. To participate, students must call the Center for Counseling and Student Development at (302) 831-2141 to register at least two weeks before each workshop series begins and must attend all sessions of the series. Students also must complete an interest survey beforehand, which takes about 40 minutes to complete and is available at the center. An assessment report based on the survey is then given to each participant, Rarick said, and students are encouraged to develop an action plan based on the results during the workshops. At the conclusion of the series, assistant deans will interact with students and discuss what their colleges offer in terms of majors and programs, Rarick said. “The goal of the workshops is to facilitate student self-assessment in terms of values, interests and skills to help with decision-making. We hope a large number of students will take advantage of the workshops to help them prepare for the future,” Rarick said. For more information, visit [www.udel.edu/Counseling/CareerFlyer2006.htm]. |
