Police report assault near UD buildings

4:35 p.m., Sept. 13, 2006--University of Delaware police are investigating an alleged domestic assault that occurred at 12:12 a.m., Saturday, in a wooded area between the University's Institute of Energy Conversion and its vehicle maintenance area off Wyoming Road.

Police said a 24-year-old woman was punched several times, choked and dragged by her hair by the suspect, a 28-year-old man. The victim suffered multiple abrasions on her upper body and her right eye was black and swollen. The individuals involved are not affiliated with the University.

Police were informed that the victim and the suspect have been living in the wooded area for about one month, and officers did find a campsite in the woods.

The suspect is incarcerated on other charges, and the case is being actively investigated.
