UD football faces Albany Saturday night at Tub

11:49 a.m., Sept. 14, 2006--The University of Delaware football team will be taking on a first-time opponent this weekend when the State University of New York at Albany visits Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium at 7:05 p.m., Saturday.

Albany, which went 5-6 last year and is off to a 1-1 start in 2006, is a member of the Northeast Conference and competes in NCAA Division I-AA. The Great Danes opened the season with a 17-16 victory at Lehigh University and last week fell 9-7 to Fordham University.

UD opened the season with a 30-7 victory over West Chester University, taking a 27-0 lead into the half against a squad that has reached the NCAA Division II playoffs each of the last two seasons.

Albany will likely start either sophomore Daniel Bocanegra or freshman Frank Blasinsky, who came on in relief in the loss to Fordham and threw for 108 yards, at quarterback. One of the key Albany weapons is tailback Marcus Allen, who has carried the ball 25 times for 110 yards in the first two games. On defense, look for All-America linebacker Colin Disch, who leads the team with 28 tackles.

Quarterback Joe Flacco directs the Fightin' Blue Hens, throwing to tight ends Ben Patrick and Rob Agnone, who caught a 50-yard touchdown pass against West Chester, and wide receiver Aaron Love, who doubles as a dangerous punt returner. Powering the UD running game are All-America Omar Cuff and freshman Jared Bradley, who rushed for 91 yards in his debut last week.

The game will be broadcast on UD flagship station WRDX-FM The River at 94.7 on the dial and on WVUD-FM, the student radio station on campus, at 91.3. Live information also will be available on the web at [www.udel.edu/sportsinfo].
