Women’s cross country 15th in meet at Lehigh

Julia Somers led the UD women’s team at the Paul Short Invitational.

11 a.m., Oct. 2, 2006--The University of Delaware women's cross country team finished in 15th place in the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University on Friday afternoon, while the UD men's team came in 41st.

Julia Somers led the women's team by finishing in 56th place after covering the six-kilometer course in 22:09, while Colleen O'Brien finished 60th in 22:17. Christina Antonopoulos finished 84th in 22:38, Brook Maguire 96th in 22:52, Ioanna Antonopoulos 137th in 23:38, Liz Paul 145th in 23:31 and Jessica Leitsch 160th in 23:47.

Kevin Kemmerle, who finished the eight-kilometer course in 26:53 to finish in 200th place, paced the UD men. Pat Wilcox came in 210th in 27:00, Matt O'Brian 215th in 27:04. Mike Ward 244th in 27:46 and Alex Gambogi 262nd in 28:14.

Both UD teams will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 14, when they host the second Delaware Invitational of the season at White Clay Creek State Park. The men's meet will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the women's meet will start at 11:15.
