Women’s tennis team falls 4-3 to Georgetown

UD’s Alexa Dragonette won at No. 4 singles in a match played Sunday afternoon at Georgetown University.

10:13 a.m., Oct. 9, 2006--The University of Delaware women's tennis team fell 4-3 at Georgetown University on Sunday afternoon.

In singles play, UD's Susan Pollack recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win over Liz Winokur at No. 1. Pollack teamed with Amanda Campbell to defeat Winokur and Adriann Gin 8-3 in No. 1 doubles, providing UD's only doubles victory in the match. Pollack is now 18-0 on the year for the Fightin' Blue Hens, with nine victories each in singles and doubles.

In other singles matches, Georgetown's Courney Olsen defeated Campbell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 and Stephanie Cohen edged UD's Liz Perlow 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3. UD's Alexa Dragonette topped Gin 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 at No. 4, while Georgetown's Kelsey Darnell defeated Sari Shuster 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 and freshman Elena Berry recorded a 6-0, 6-2 win over Briana Kerney at No. 6.

UD will return to action Friday when the Hens travel to Old Dominion University for a weekend tournament.
