Hofstra blanks Delaware in CAA women’s soccer

Jess Bendzlowicz scored her first goal for the Hens.

9:32 a.m., Oct. 23, 2006--After battling Northeastern University to a 1-1 draw on Friday, the University of Delaware women's soccer team fell 2-0 at Hofstra University on Sunday in late season Colonial Athletic Association play.

The Fightin' Blue Hens are now 8-7-3 overall and 3-6-1 in the CAA with one game remaining. They will play at Drexel University in a conference match at 7 p.m., Friday.

UD and Northeastern went double overtime in the 1-1 draw on Friday evening at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. Sophomore Jess Bendzlowicz scored her first goal as a Hen off an assist from Lisa Parsons, driving a shot into the net from 20 yards out. Northeastern tied the game with just over 10 minutes left to play. Both teams had chances to win in overtime, none better than when UD's Lindsay Boyd put a rebound just over the crossbar. Goalkeeper Bonnie Mills had five saves for the Hens.

Hofstra scored early and late to defeat the Hens 2-0. Kasie Shover and Kendall Lytwynec had three shots apiece for UD, and Mills had nine saves.
