UD women’s soccer splits weekend games

Kasie Shover scored the game-winner in UD’s victory over Towson.

9:06 a.m., Oct. 9, 2006--The University of Delaware women's soccer team split a pair of weekend Colonial Athletic Association matches, falling 1-0 to George Mason University on Friday evening before defeating Towson University 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. Both games were played at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.

The Fightin' Blue Hens are now 8-4-2 overall and 3-3 in the CAA as they prepare to take to the road for a pair of conference games Friday and Sunday. UD will play at the University of North Carolina Wilmington on Friday evening and at Georgia State University on Sunday afternoon.

In the victory over Towson, Kasie Shover scored for the Hens on a corner kick with just under 20 minutes left in the game. Her ball deflected off the intersection of the crossbar and far post and into the net for her fifth goal of the season. UD goalkeeper Bonnie Mills had two saves.

Mills had four saves and gave up just one goal midway through the second half in the loss to George Mason. Shover had three shots for the Hens.
