Women’s soccer team splits weekend games

Kasie Shover’s overtime goal lifted the Hens to a 1-0 victory over James Madison.

10:50 a.m., Oct. 2, 2006--The University of Delaware women's soccer team split a pair of Colonial Athletic Association road matches this weekend, falling 1-0 at Virginia Commonwealth University on Friday before rebounding for a 1-0 victory in double overtime at James Madison University on Sunday.

The Fightin' Blue Hens are now 7-3-2 overall and 2-2 in the CAA. They will return home to the Delaware Mini-Stadium for a pair of conference matches this weekend, facing George Mason University at 7 p.m., Friday, and Towson University at 2 p.m., Sunday. George Mason is 4-7-1 overall and 1-3 in the conference and Towson is 5-5-1 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

In the loss to Virginia Commonwealth, the Hens managed just four shots. UD goalkeeper Bonnie Mills had seven saves, allowing just the one goal to Brittain Maas.

In the victory over James Madison, UD won on a goal by sophomore Kasie Shover with just 55 seconds left to play in the second overtime. Shover, who transferred to UD from North Carolina State University and is the sister of former Hen keeper Lindsey Shover, lofted a shot over James Madison goalkeeper Diane Wszalek into the far right corner of the goal to give the Hens their first overtime win of the season. Mills had eight saves for her fifth shutout of the season.
