Blue Hen Weekend: Soccer, hockey at home

10:59 a.m., Oct. 5, 2006--University of Delaware women's soccer and field hockey will be at home for Colonial Athletic Association contests this weekend.

The UD women's soccer team, which is 7-3-2 overall and 2-2 in the CAA, will take on George Mason University at 7 p.m., Friday, at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. George Mason is 4-7-1. The Fightin' Blue Hens will return to action with a match against Towson University at 2 p.m., Sunday, at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. Towson is 5-5-1. UD is ranked No. 10 in the Mid-Atlantic region by Soccer Buzz magazine.

The UD field hockey team, which is 5-7 overall and 2-1 in the conference, will face the College of William & Mary at 7 p.m., Friday, at Rullo Stadium. William & Mary is 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference, and is ranked No. 17 in NCAA Division I by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

The Hens will return to Rullo for a game at 1 p.m., Sunday, against No. 3-ranked Old Dominion University, which is 11-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Old Dominion midfielder Nico Van Nispen is the CAA co-player of the week after scoring three goals and an assist in action last week.

Also this weekend, the UD golf team will be at home, hosting the Scotty Duncan Invitational at the White Clay Creek Country Club in Stanton, and the UD rowing team will hold an exhibition on Saturday on the Christina River in Wilmington.

On the road this weekend are the UD football team, which will face Northeastern University at noon, Saturday, the men's soccer team, which will play at George Mason on Friday and at Towson on Sunday, and the volleyball team, which will play at Virginia Commonwealth University at 7 p.m., Friday, and at William & Mary at 7 p.m., Saturday. Also, the women's tennis team will play at Georgetown University on Saturday morning.
