Facts, fun on tap for Alcohol Awareness Week

1:44 p.m., Oct. 13, 2006--National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, being observed at UD Monday-Friday, Oct. 16-20, combines information students should know about the effects of alcohol and drinking, and alcohol-free activities and entertainment for students to enjoy.

A kiosk will be staffed from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16, in the Trabant University Center, where students can get information and learn about BAC (blood alcohol content) from nurses from Christiana Care Health System. Posters, T-shirts and other items will be handed out as well.

Students can learn more about alcohol at a presentation, “Alcohol Physiology--How Alcohol Affects the Mind and Body,” by Nancy Nutt, program director of Wellspring, UD's student wellness program, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in 111 Memorial Hall.

Love Your Body Day's “Self-Care Fair” will feature belly dancing from 7-8 p.m. and yoga from 8-9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 18, in Multipurpose Room B in the Trabant University Center.

Students are invited to take a survey on “How Does Your Drinking Compare?” from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19, at Wellspring, 231 South College Ave.

“Get Wacky Not Wasted,” from 9 p.m.-1 a.m., Friday, Oct. 20, at the Perkins Student Center, will offer food and music, and many activities for students from riding the mechanical bull, to tie dying T-shirts to having a caricature made. The event is sponsored by V8, a student group planning alternative events.
