Villanova volleyball team beats Fightin’ Blue Hens

Heather Ranck has 1,410 digs in her UD volleyball career.

9:27 a.m., Oct. 26, 2006--Villanova University defeated the University of Delaware 3-1 in a non-conference volleyball match played Wednesday night before 278 fans at Barbara Viera Court at the Carpenter Sports Building.

The teams were tied after two games, with Villanova winning the first 30-26 and the Fightin' Blue Hens the second 30-24. The Wildcats then won the next two games 30-25 and 30-28.

UD senior Heather Ranck had 22 digs to bring her career total to 1,410, sixth all-time for the Hens. Sophomore Kelly Gibson had 22 kills and 17 digs, junior Colleen Walsh had 20 kills and senior Claire McCormack had 14 kills and six service aces. Junior setter Megan Welch had 60 assists.

With the loss, the Hens are now 16-6 on the season. UD will remain at home for a pair of Colonial Athletic Association contests this weekend, facing Hofstra University at 7 p.m., Friday, and Northeastern University at 7 p.m., Saturday. Hofstra leads the CAA with a record of 16-5 overall and 12-0 in the conference, and Northeastern is in a tie for third place at 11-9 overall and 8-4 in the conference.
