Delaware volleyball team defeats George Mason

Kelly Gibson had 22 kills and 15 digs in the victory over George Mason.

10:21 a.m., Oct. 16, 2006--Ending a four-match losing streak, the University of Delaware volleyball team defeated host George Mason University 3-1 in a Colonial Athletic Association contest played Saturday in Fairfax, Va.

The Fightin' Blue Hens had not won since Sept. 30 and the streak included a 3-0 loss at James Madison University on Friday. With the victory, they improved to 15-5 overall and 6-5 in the conference. UD will return to action with a CAA match at Towson University at 7:30 p.m., Friday. Towson is 17-6 overall and 8-3 in the conference.

In the victory over George Mason, the Hens won 30-26, 30-23, 25-30 and 30-20. Kelly Gibson and Colleen Walsh had 22 kills each, and Gibson added 15 digs. Freshman Michelle LaLonde had 17 kills and setter Megan Welch had 67 assists and 13 digs.

In the loss to James Madison, the Hens fell 30-28, 30-17 and 30-28. Gibson had 16 kills and 14 digs and Walsh had 16 kills and 11 digs. Welch had 40 assists.
