Towson defeats Hens, snaps volleyball streak

Colleen Walsh had 21 kills, including the 1,000th of her career, in Tuesday’s loss to Towson.

2:18 p.m., Oct. 4, 2006--Towson University defeated the University of Delaware 3-1 in a Colonial Athletic Association contest played Tuesday night at Barbara Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building, snapping a nine-match home winning streak.

The Fightin' Blue Hens fell 31-29, 30-27, 24-30 and 30-21 and are now 14-2 overall and 5-2 in the CAA. They will return to conference action with matches at 7 p.m., Friday, at Virginia Commonwealth University and at 7 p.m., Saturday, at the College of William & Mary.

In Tuesday's loss, UD junior Colleen Walsh had 21 kills, including the 1,000th of her career in the third game. Sophomore Kelly Gibson had 20 kills and 16 digs and Megan Welch had 61 assists. Sue Wiker had 11 kills and freshman Michelle LaLonde, who was named the CAA rookie of the week, had eight. Heather Ranck led the team with 25 digs.
