Blue Hen football team to face Towson Tigers

1:38 p.m., Oct. 26, 2006--The University of Delaware football team will try to build on its impressive victory last weekend when it meets Towson University in an Atlantic 10 Conference contest at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium.

The Fightin' Blue Hens are coming off a 28-24 road win over the University of Richmond, which entered that game ranked No. 10 in NCAA Division I-AA. In the victory, UD quarterback Joe Flacco completed 31 passes in 45 attempts for 305 yards and two touchdowns, sophomore wide receiver Aaron Love caught seven passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns, and freshman running back Jared Bradley scored two touchdowns.

UD is 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference's South division, where the Hens are in a three-way tie for second place behind James Madison University. The Dukes are 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

Towson is one of the teams in the three-way tie, with an overall record of 5-2. The Tigers have been a tough opponent since joining the Atlantic 10, defeating UD 35-31 last year at Johnny Unitas Stadium. Unfortunately for the Hens, all the key players from that game are back, including sophomore quarterback Sean Schaefer, who completed 19 of 34 passes for 274 yards and a touchdown, wide receivers Eric Yancey and Andrae Brown, who combined for 14 catches and 138 yards, and running back Nick Williams, who ran 25 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns. So far this season, Schaefer has completed 156 of 226 passes for 1,778 yards and nine touchdowns.

The teams have one common opponent to date, that being Hofstra University. Both defeated the Pride, but in very different types of games. Towson defeated Hofstra 33-30 in a shootout while UD edged the Pride 10-6 in a defensive struggle.

Saturday's game at Delaware Stadium will be part of UD's Parents and Family Weekend celebration. The contest will be broadcast on radio stations WRDX-FM The River 94.7 and WVUD-FM 91.3.
