Blue Hen tennis teams compete in ITA events

UD sophomore Nolan Greenberg won matches in singles and doubles.

8:22 a.m., Oct. 24, 2006--The University of Delaware tennis teams competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's fall regional tournaments last weekend, with the men's team in action at the University of Pennsylvania and the women's team traveling to Dartmouth College.

Sophomore Nolan Greenberg won a singles match and a doubles match to highlight performances by the Fightin' Blue Hens. Greenberg picked up a singles victory in the first round as he defeated Ben Schueler of the University of Connecticut 6-1, 6-3 before falling in the second round to Alex Vuckovic of Princeton University 6-3, 6-2. Greenberg then competed in doubles with freshman Sam Barrer and they won a first round victory over Conrad Nowogrodski and Cprime Realista of St. Peter's College 8-1 before falling to the No. 1 seeded Sasha Ermakou and Ashwin Kumar of Harvard University 8-3.

Barrer competed in a consolation singles draw for doubles players who did not compete in the singles main draw and fell to Alex Rastorgouev of Boston College 7-5, 6-1 in the first round.

At Dartmouth, UD's Susan Pollack fell to Harvard's Stephanie Schnitter by a score of 6-2, 6-1 in the first round Sunday. Pollack and Amanda Campbell, the Hens' No. 1 doubles team, dropped their opening round match to Katherine Ariak and Dana Gordan-Hartman of Rutgers University by an 8-5 score on Saturday.

Both teams concluded their fall seasons with the ITA regionals and will return to action in January when they compete in the Virginia Commonwealth University Tournament.
