Blue Hen tennis teams compete in Va. tourney

5:17 p.m., Oct. 16, 2006--The University of Delaware tennis teams competed in the Hampton Roads Collegiate Tennis Invitational of Newport News held Friday through Sunday.

For the UD men's team, Andrew Blumberg went 4-1 weekend and earned the D singles consolation title by defeating Loyola College's Chris Langley 8-3 in the finals. Camilo Perez fell to Eric Caudill of Virginia Wesleyan College 8-3 in the C singles consolation final. The doubles team of Amit Kapur and Jon Schwartz went 3-1 and advanced to the men's D doubles final before falling 8-0 to Rafael Roldan and Arturo Solis of Washington College.

For the UD women's team, Kristen Mueller went 3-1 in singles play and reached the C-2 singles finals before losing 8-2 to Becky Morse-Karzen of Mary Washington University. In doubles play, Susan Pollack and Amanda Campbell won two matches to advance to the A doubles semifinal before taking their first loss of the season, 8-2, to Radka Ferancova and Yuri Kurashima of Temple University. Two other UD doubles teams reached the finals, with Elena Berry and Alexa Dragonette falling 8-1 to Magda Bresson and Klaudyna Kasztelaniec of the College of William & Mary in the B doubles final and Brittany Barsky and Julie Schiller falling 8-3 to Carmen
Pop and Lauren Sabacinski of William & Mary in the C doubles final.

The UD men's team will return to action Thursday when the Fightin' Blue Hens travel to the University of Pennsylvania for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association fall regionals. The women's team will compete in the same tournament starting on Friday at Dartmouth College.
