Employee Health Screening Bonanza set Nov. 13

4:53 p.m., Oct. 19, 2006--UD's Employee Health Screening Bonanza, a variety of screenings designed to assess health risks, will be available from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 13, in Multipurpose Room C of the Trabant University Center.

The cost to participate is 15 Wellness Dollars, with no copayment required. Participants may choose to have as many screenings as desired for this one price, and results will be immediate and confidential.

Linda Smith, Employee Wellness Center Program Coordinator, said last year's screening was a success. "This event was held last year, and was extremely well-received,” Smith said. “Employees seem to appreciate having all of these screenings available under one roof.”

Health tests being offered include finger-stick cholesterol and diabetes tests, stroke screening, lung-function tests, body mass index (BMI), healthy nutrition, flexibility and stress resiliency. The results of these screenings can be used by employees and retirees to identify their risks for future health problems. Information on sleep problems and smoking cessation also will be available.

Results will not be kept by sponsors of the screening, and scores will be provided directly and only to participants, who also will be given information on how to modify their risk factors, according to Marianne Carter, director of the Employee Wellness Center.

“The assistance of the School of Nursing faculty and nursing students expands our staffing ability for this screening,” Carter said. “The Department of Medical Technology is also lending manpower, and pulmonary-testing equipment that we don't usually have available is generously being provided by the Ice Skating Science Development Center."

UD's Employee Wellness Center, School of Nursing, Department of Medical Technology and Ice Skating Science Development Center are cosponsoring the screenings.

Preregistration is required to ensure adequate supplies and materials. Register online at [www.udel.edu/wellness] or call (302) 831-8388.
