Blue Hen rowers finish 45th at Princeton Chase

8:59 a.m., Oct. 31, 2006--The University of Delaware women's rowing team finished 45th out of 54 teams in the women's open eights race at the Princeton Chase held Sunday afternoon on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J.

The UD team of Kenna Plangemann, Elizabeth Carey, Laura Beaufort, Melanie Turner, Christina Stanley, Justine Strausser, Lisa Ferrara, Jenn Boutin and Nikki Jackowsky rowed to a time of 18:02.19. The University of Virginia A team won the title with a time of 15:50.93 while Yale University A was second in 16:07.62.

"This past Sunday the conditions were quite windy but I feel that our varsity eights handled the gusty conditions in an outstanding manner," UD Head Coach Laura Slice said. "Overall this was not our best race as a varsity boat as a boat-stopping crab, an unfortunate collision and a few mental mistakes cost us time out on the course. Each race is a learning experience and the knowledge that we gained from this race will only help us as we prepare for the Head of the Occoquan."

The Head of the Occoquan at Fairfax Station, Va., will be held Saturday, and will close the fall season for the Fightin' Blue Hens.
