Talk Oct. 25 on criminal justice in East Asia

3:22 p.m., Oct. 24, 2006--David Bayley, an internationally recognized authority on comparative criminal justice and policing, will speak on “Chopsticks in Criminal Justice: East Asia in Comparative Perspective,” at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25, in 205 Kirkbride Hall.

Bayley, who is a professor at the State University of New York in Albany, will discuss East Asia's unique contributions to criminal justice from an international viewpoint and the corresponding problems that also arise. Drawing on extensive research in India, Japan, Australia, Canada, Britain, Singapore and the United States, Bayley has investigated the strategies and evolution of police forces around the world. His most recent book is Changing the Guard: Developing Democratic Police Abroad.

Free and open to the public, the talk is part of an ongoing series, with the theme, “East Asia in a Globalizing World: Exploring Local-Global Connections, ” and is sponsored by a Title VI grant from the U.S. Department of Education to UD's East Asian Studies Program.
