Newark Police investigate burglary, rape

6:20 p.m., Oct. 8, 2006--Newark Police are investigating a rape that occurred around 5:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 8, on Wilbur Street in Newark.

A man--approximately 20 years old, with a slightly heavy build and short, buzz-cut hair--entered the residence of a 19-year-old woman while she was asleep and sexually assaulted her. After the assault, the suspect fled.

The victim reported the attack, and Newark Police patrol units responded and searched the area but were unsuccessful. The victim was taken to the Christiana Emergency Room, where she was treated and released.
