2:14 p.m., Oct. 5, 2006--The Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences in the UD College of Health Sciences is holding an open house at the Human Performance Lab from 3-6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10. The lab is located in the Fred Rust Ice Arena near Delaware Field House.

The newly expanded facility features laboratories and faculty offices dedicated to the support of research and instruction in the following areas:

  • Biomechanics;
  • Bone health;
  • Cardiovascular physiology;
  • Clinical exercise physiology;
  • Gait analysis;
  • Motor control;
  • Motor development;
  • Motor unit function;
  • Neuromuscular function; and
  • Sports medicine.

Over the past several months at the Human Performance Lab, the biomechanics lab was moved to a newly constructed second floor, and new labs were installed on the first floor for athletic training, neuroscience, motor control and motor development. Five new offices also were added to house existing faculty.

The Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences has 42 full-time faculty and more than 800 students participating in eight undergraduate degree programs ranging from athletic training to nutritional science; master's programs in exercise science, health promotion, and human nutrition; and an interdisciplinary doctoral program in biomechanics and movement science, which also involves the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Physical Therapy.
