Homecoming: Hofstra up next for Blue Hens

Quarterback Joe Flacco will lead the Hens against Hofstra on Saturday.

8:46 a.m., Oct. 12, 2006--Dave Cohen will return to Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium on Saturday, this time standing on the opposite sideline. After four years as the University of Delaware's defensive coordinator, Cohen will visit as the first-year head coach of Hofstra University, the Homecoming opponent for the Fightin' Blue Hens. Kickoff will be at noon.

Both teams enter the game 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Hens are hoping to snap a two-game losing streak and to avoid losing three straight home games for the first time since 1983.

UD, already hard hit by injuries this season, may be without the services of star running back Omar Cuff, who missed last week's 27-24 loss at Northeastern University and earlier this week was involved in a car accident. In his place, the Hens have turned to freshman Jared Bradley and converted wide receiver Kervin Michaud, who ran for 48 yards and caught six passes for 43 yards against Northeastern.

Directing the UD offense is quarterback Joe Flacco, who has completed 94 passes in 169 attempts for 1,049 yards and six touchdowns. Tight end Ben Patrick has emerged as a primary target, catching 26 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Anton Clarkson leads Hofstra, having completed 89 of 170 passes for 1,156 yards and six touchdowns. Shaine Smith is the leading receiver with 35 catches for 613 yards and five touchdowns. Kareem Huggins has carried the ball 65 times for 308 yards and Terry Crenshaw has carried 40 times for 116 yards.

The game will be broadcast on WRDX-FM The River 94.7 and on WVUD-FM 91.3.
