Delaware field hockey faces ranked CAA foes

9:42 a.m., Oct. 9, 2006--The University of Delaware field hockey team faced two nationally ranked Colonial Athletic Association opponents this weekend at Rullo Stadium, defeating No. 17 College of William & Mary 2-0 on Friday an falling to No. 3 Old Dominion University 2-0 on Sunday.

The Fightin' Blue Hens are now 6-8 overall and 3-2 in the highly competitive CAA. After a short break, the Hens will return to action with conference games Oct. 20 at Towson University and Oct. 22 at James Madison University.

In the victory over William & Mary, the Hens scored two goals in a two-minute span in the second half to secure the win. Kaili Kao scored the first goal and Lindsey Piester the second on a penalty stroke. UD goalkeeper Nikki Rhodes had four saves to record the Hens' first shutout of the season.

Against Old Dominion, Rhoades had 14 saves, including several key stops to keep the game close. The Monarchs outshot the Hens 27-1.
