Mary Ann Hitchens Golf Outing set Oct. 30

2:51 p.m., Oct. 24, 2006--The Friends of Mary Ann Hitchens Golf Outing, which benefits women's sports at UD, will be held on Monday, Oct. 30, at the Newark Country Club.

Registration begins at 10 a.m., with tee off scheduled at 11 a.m. A practice range and boxed lunches will be available. An awards presentation, including hors d'oeuvres and refreshments, will be held from 3-4 p.m. Cost is $110 per person.

The event benefits the Mary Ann Hitchens Endowment for Women's Athletics, which supports the needs of UD's 12 women's sports programs.

A member of the UD Athletics Hall of Fame and the Delaware Sports Museum and Sports Hall of Fame, Hitchens retired in June after 37 years of service to intercollegiate athletics at UD.

Joining Hitchens at the event will be Janet Smith, former UD lacrosse coach, assistant field hockey coach and professor in the College of Health Sciences, who retired at the end of the 2005-06 academic year. Smith was inducted into the UD Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997.
