Field hockey prepares for CAA tournament

10:23 a.m., Oct. 30, 2006--The University of Delaware field hockey team has earned the sixth and final seed in the Colonial Athletic Association championship tournament and will face the third seed, Hofstra University, at 7 p.m., Wednesday, in Hempstead, N.Y.

Earlier this season, UD defeated Hofstra 3-2 in overtime in a game played at Rullo Stadium.

The winner of the UD-Hofstra game will face the second seed, James Madison University, in the tournament semifinals to be played Saturday at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. The championship game will be played at 1 p.m., Sunday, at the Sportsplex. Old Dominion University is the top seed and will face the winner of the game between Northeastern University and the College of William & Mary in the other semifinal contest.

The Fightin' Blue Hens closed the season 7-11 overall and 3-5 in the conference. They fell 2-1 at Drexel University on Friday afternoon but bounced back to win the season finale 5-2 on Sunday against LaSalle University at Rullo Stadium. In the loss to Drexel, freshman forward Tori Karsten scored the lone goal for UD while goalkeeper Nikki Rhoades had five saves. In the victory over LaSalle, Casey Howard had three goals and Molly Burke two while Rhoades had four saves.
