UD field hockey team falls to Northeastern

Molly Burke had two goals and an assist in the victory over Virginia Commonwealth.

10:25 a.m., Oct. 2, 2006--Playing a pair of Colonial Athletic Association games this weekend, the University of Delaware field hockey team defeated Virginia Commonwealth University 4-2 at home Friday before falling to Northeastern University 5-0 on the road Sunday.

The Fightin' Blue Hens are now 5-7 overall and 2-1 in the CAA. They will face the top two teams in the conference this weekend at Rullo Stadium, taking on the College of William & Mary at 7 p.m., Friday, and Old Dominion University, ranked No. 3 in the nation, at 1 p.m., Sunday. William & Mary is 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference, and is ranked No. 18, and Old Dominion is 11-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

In Friday's victory over Virginia Commonwealth, the Hens were led by junior Molly Burke, who had two goals and an assist, and senior Katie Evans, who had a goal and two assists. Also scoring for UD was Casey Howard. Goalkeeper Nikki Rhoades had one save.

Rhodes, who is starting in place of injured goalkeeper Megan Allen, had a career high 13 saves in the loss to Northeastern on Sunday. UD managed just three shots in the game.
