Blue Hen football team set to visit Northeastern

11:06 a.m., Oct. 5, 2006--Fresh off a hard-fought, high-scoring loss to the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, the University of Delaware football team is preparing to travel to Parsons Field in Brookline, Mass., for an Atlantic 10 Conference game at noon, Saturday, against Northeastern University.

The Fightin' Blue Hens fell 52-49 to the University of New Hampshire and its star quarterback Ricky Santos last week at Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium. With the loss, UD fell to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic 10.

They hope to bounce back against Northeastern, which is 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference and will be making its first appearance at home after five straight road games. The Huskies fell 12-7 to the No. 7-ranked University of Richmond in a conference game played last week.

Northeastern's offense is directed by sophomore quarterback Anthony Orio, who has completed 59 of 93 passes for 492 yards and two touchdowns. His favorite target is 6-foot 4-inch senior tight end Kendrick Ballantyne, who has caught 19 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Maurice Murray has carried 70 times for 303 yards and three touchdowns.

Sophomore linebacker Craig Kenney leads Northeastern with 34 tackles, and has blocked one punt and forced one fumble.

The UD offense, which came to life against New Hampshire, is led by quarterback Joe Flacco, who has completed 70 passes in 128 attempts for 807 yards and five touchdowns. Tight end Ben Patrick has emerged as the leading receiver, with 21 catches for 235 yards and a touchdown.

All-purpose running back Omar Cuff has rushed 76 times for 334 yards and six touchdowns and has caught 19 passes for 180 yards.
