Forum on sustainable development set Nov. 17

Debra Rowe, president of the U.S. Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development

1:50 p.m., Oct. 31, 2006--Debra Rowe, president of the U.S. Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development, will speak on “Reducing Student Apathy and Deepening Learning via Education for a Sustainable Future,” at a lunchtime University Forum open to the University community, from 12:15-1:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 17, in the Rodney Room of the Perkins Student Center.

Lunch will be provided, but reservations should be made by sending e-mail to Carol Bedgar at [cb@udel.edu] or calling her at (302) 831-1201 by Monday, Nov. 6.

Rowe will discuss resources to increase understanding of global sustainability challenges and engagement in solutions--by simultaneously creating healthier ecosystems, social systems and economies. The presentation and discussion includes resources for faculty, students and staff.

Rowe also will be on campus Nov. 17 and 18, meeting with groups across the campus.

A graduate of Yale University, Rowe has doctorate in business from the University of Michigan and serves as professor of sustainable energy technologies and behavioral sciences at Oakland Community College in Michigan. Her students in alternate energy technologies include builders, architects, engineers, building trades people and facilities managers. She won the state and regional professional development award from the Association of Energy Engineers.

Rowe is a senior fellow at the Association of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future [www.ulsf.org], national co-coordinator of the Higher Education Associations Sustainability Consortium [www.heasc.net] and senior advisory councilor for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education [www.aashe.org]. She assists higher education associations and institutions to integrate sustainability into mission, curricula, student life, operations and community partnerships.
