North Korean specialist to speak at UD Oct. 23

3:51 p.m., Oct. 16, 2006--“The Problem of North Korea in the Age of Terrorism,” is the title of a lecture scheduled at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 23, at UD.

Byong Man Ahn, distinguished visiting scholar in the UD Department of Political Science and International Relations and an internationally acclaimed East Asian specialist, will discuss North Korea and nuclear weapons, human rights and illegal business transactions. His talk, free and open to the public, will be held in Mitchell Hall. A reception will follow in Gore Hall.

Since coming to UD as a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence more than 20 years ago, Ahn has visited UD many times as a scholar in residence and visiting professor. As the former president of Hankuk University in Seoul, he fostered faculty and student exchange between South Korea and the United States and gained prominence as one of the foremost educational leaders and scholars in Korea. He played a major role in establishing an academic exchange between Hankuk University and UD. He received an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from UD at Winter Commencement 2004.
