Blue Hen Weekend: Men’s basketball action

5 p.m., Nov. 30, 2006--This Blue Hen Weekend will feature the University of Delaware men's basketball team, which will take to the court to face the University of Vermont at 1 p.m., Sunday, at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Hens are hoping to pick up their first win of the season but will face a very difficult opponent in Vermont, of the America East Conference, which earlier this season upset nationally ranked Boston College 77-63. The 3-3 Catamounts have played a challenging schedule, with losses to the University of Maryland, Michigan State University and Drexel University, like UD a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.

UD, which starts two freshmen in point guard Brian Johnson and forward Darrell Johnson, is off to a difficult start at 0-5. The Hens are shooting just under 38 percent overall and 26 percent from the three-point line. Forward Herb Courtney is the leading scoring, averaging 17 points per game, and both Zaire Taylor and Calvin Cannon are averaging 12 points per game.

Sunday's game can be heard on radio station WRDX-FM The River 94.7 and on WVUD-FM 91.3.

The 5-1 UD women's basketball team will be on the road this weekend, playing at 1 p.m., Sunday, at Drexel University in Philadelphia. The game can be heard on WWTX-AM The Ticket 1290 and on WDOV-AM 1410.

Also this weekend, the UD swimming teams will compete Friday and Saturday at the Loyola Invitational meet at Loyola College of Maryland and the indoor track teams will compete at the Jack Pyrach Invitational at Haverford, Pa.
