UD women's basketball cruises past American

UD’s Chrissy Fisher scored 25 points in Friday’s victory over American.

11:19 a.m., Nov. 20, 2006--Senior forward Chrissy Fisher hit her first 11 shots and scored 25 points as the University of Delaware women's basketball team defeated American University 71-54 on Friday night before 1,047 fans at the Bob Carpenter Center.

With the victory, the Fightin' Blue Hens are now 2-1 as they prepare to travel to California for the Odwalla Classic tournament at the University of San Francisco. They are scheduled to meet the No. 21-ranked University of Kentucky on Friday night.

The Hens will play again Saturday, taking on either San Francisco of Southern Illinois University. The women's basketball tournament games will be heard on radio stations WWTX-AM The Ticket 1290, WVUD-FM 91.3 and WDOV-AM 1410.

Against American, UD jumped out to a 42-22 halftime lead and cruised to the victory. Fisher finished the night hitting on 11 of 13 shots from the field and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Also for the Hens, Kristina Gineitis had nine points, Kyle DeHaven had eight, Tyresa Smith had seven, Melissa Czorniewy had six and Courtney Irving had five. Former Hen Liz Hayes scored 29 points for American.
