UD women's swimming team defeats LaSalle

Maryann Walker won the 200 freestyle for the UD women’s swimming team.

10:58 a.m., Nov. 20, 2006--Sarah Bergan won the one- and three-meter diving events to lead the University of Delaware women's swimming and diving team to a 146-92 win over LaSalle University on Saturday afternoon at the Harry W. Rawstrom Natatorium in the Carpenter Sports Building.

Adam Blomberg won the 100 and 200 freestyle events and was part of the winning 400 freestyle relay team for the UD men's team, which fell 135-108.

The UD women's team, which improved to 7-1, featured seven different individual winners. In addition to Bergan, Meredith Law won the 1,000 freestyle and finished second in the 500 freestyle, Maryann Walker won the 200 freestyle, Rachel Greene won the 50 freestyle and finished third in the 100 freestyle, Stephanie House won the 200 butterfly, Sarah Begley won the 100 freestyle and Emily Smathers won the 200 backstroke.

In addition to victories by Blomberg, UD's Andrew Zinn captured the 50 free for the third consecutive meet. Zinn and Blomberg, along with Brendan Spencer and John Ohlhaver, captured the 400 freestyle relay. Joe Virion finished second in both the 500 and 1,000 freestyle and Matt Abbruzzese finished second in the one- and three-meter diving events. The men's team is 4-2 on the season.

The UD swimming and diving teams will return to action Dec. 1-2 at the Loyola College of Maryland Invitational.
