Blue Hen rowing teams compete at Occoquan

10:33 a.m., Nov. 10, 2006--The University of Delaware rowing team closed its fall exhibition season by competing at the Head of the Occoquan Regatta on the Occoquan River in Fairfax Station, Va. The Fightin' Blue Hens competed in four races, finishing third in the novice fours, fourth and 14th in the varsity eights, fifth in the novice eights, and 18th in the varsity fours.

“The women have worked diligently these past few months to get to this point and their hard work really paid off this weekend,” UD Head Coach Laura Slice said of the regatta. “I could not be more pleased with the performances of our varsity and novice crews.”

The novice fours team of Ashley Pazdalski, Arielle Katz, Sarah Cuje, Jess Brooks and Alexx De Lorme was third in a time of 21:58.64, finishing behind winner Duquesne University (21:09.42) and runner-up College of William & Mary (21:21.80) in the nine-team race.

The varsity eights A team of Kenna Plangemann, Elizabeth Carey, Laura Beaufort, Melanie Turner, Christina Stanley, Justine Strausser, Lisa Ferrara, Jenn Boutin and Nikki Jackowsky finished fourth in 18:01.80 while the B team of Cami Off, Lily Chavarriaga, Rachel Thomas, Lisa Medina, Lana Rivers, Katie Gooding, Betsy Seeger, Emily Canniff and Maria Bellumori finished 14th in 19:50.88. The U.S. Naval Academy won the 17-team race in 16:58.67, and was followed by George Washington University and Navy's B team.

The UD novice eights team of Avery Griffin, Katz, DeLorme, Kialeen Hay, Cuje, Brooks, Regine Adrien, Brittany Hayes and Pazdalski was fifth in 21:25.48. Navy won the 17-team race in 18:32.60 and was followed by Navy B and American University.

The varsity fours team of Callie Tegan, Katie Broullire, Lynn Hamski, Kristen Cannatelli and Nicolette Lotrionte finished 18th in 22:40.82 in the 21-team race. Penn State University won with a time of 10:32.37 and was followed by George Washington and William & Mary.
