Police investigate robbery of 3 students

8:15 a.m., Nov. 20, 2006--Newark Police are investigating the robbery at gunpoint of three male University of Delaware students that occurred around 9 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 19, on North Chapel Street in Newark.

The students were robbed by three men, ages 16-18, near the rear entrance to the Newark Shopping Center. One of the suspects pointed a black handgun and demanded property from the students. The students turned over a cell phone, and, when the suspects started to flee, the students gave chase, capturing one of the suspects, a 16-year-old male from Harbor Club Apartments in Newark, and holding him until police arrived. A black handgun was recovered from the suspect.

The other two suspects, who fled the scene, are described as 6 foot 2 inches tall, wearing a gray sweatshirt and a black mask, and 5 foot 8 inches tall, wearing a black sweatshirt.

Newark Police also are investigating a robbery that occurred around 7:50 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 19, at McDonald's Restaurant, 815 South College Ave., Newark. A man, 20 to 25 years of age and wearing a dark knit hat and blue hooded sweatshirt, approached the counter. When the cash register was open, he forced his way behind the counter, removed cash and fled on foot.
