White Ribbon Campaign set Nov. 12-17

3:31 p.m., Nov. 9, 2006--UD's Men Against Rape Society (MARS), along with several other campus units, is sponsoring the White Ribbon Campaign from Sunday-Friday, Nov. 12-17.

During the weeklong campaign, which is happening at college campuses worldwide, students are encouraged to take a pledge to end violence in their lives and wear a white ribbon throughout the week to show their support and awareness.

The campaign at UD will kick off at 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 12, in Multipurpose Room A of the Trabant University Center with an address from Terry Lilley, a UD student MARS representative, Lauria Cobb, a representative from Contact Delaware, and a representative from UD's sexual assault awareness organization, S.O.S. The program, “Are You Playing it Safe?” is designed to dispel common myths about rape, educate participants about ways men and women can help prevent assaults and boost awareness about assault-prevention services and resources on campus.

From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday, Nov. 14-16, at a kiosk in the Trabant University Center, representatives from MARS and other sponsoring units will distribute rape prevention information and take pledges for white ribbons.

To bring the campaign to a festive finale from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 17, on the Patio of the Trabant University Center, the local band Long Walk Home will perform popular covers and original compositions.

All White Ribbon Campaign events at UD are free and open to members of the University. Sponsors include UD's Sexual Assault Prevention Education Committee, S.O.S., MARS, VDay, the Office of Women's Affairs and Contact Delaware.
