Abstracts for sought for public sector conference

3:40 p.m., Nov. 17, 2006--The School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy's Institute for Public Administration (IPA) is hosting the Third Transatlantic Dialogue, “Leading to the Future of the Public Sector,” May 31-June 2, at the Clayton Hall Conference Center. The purpose of the conference, which represents members of the American Society for Public Administration and the European Group of Public Administration, is to bring together American and European researchers on leadership in the public sector.

Previous conferences focused on “Ethics and Integrity of Governance” and “A Performing Public Sector.” The first focused on ethics in the public sector, while the second highlighted research on performance management and collaborative networks.

The core of the conference is six workshops:

  • Leading for the Future;
  • Diverse Leaders and Leading a Diverse Workforce;
  • Training and Developing Leaders;
  • Leading in a Multi-Sector Environment;
  • Leadership and the New Public Management; and
  • Ethical Leadership in the Context of Globalization.

Participants in workshops are asked to prepare a paper, subscribe to one workshop and take an active role in the sessions.

Interested persons, including faculty, staff and graduate students, are encouraged to submit paper abstracts by Dec. 15. A full call for papers, a provisional conference program and other information are available at [www.ipa.udel.edu/3tad].

The conference is sponsored by UD's School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy and the Katholieke Universiteit of Leuven, Belgium's Public Management Institute. Maria Aristigueta, associate professor of public adminstration and associate policy scientist in the Institute for Public Administration at UD, and Annie Hondeghem, professor in public management at the Catholic University of Leuven, are coordinating the event.
