UD men’s basketball drops third straight game

UD’s Calvin Cannon

9:44 a.m., Nov. 22, 2006--The University of Delaware men's basketball team lost its third straight game, falling 77-67 to Rider University in a game played Tuesday night before 3,042 fans at the Bob Carpenter Center. With the loss, the Fightin' Blue Hens are off to an 0-3 start for the first time since the 1990-91 season.

UD fell behind early and trailed 39-30 at the half. The Hens rallied early in the second half to cut the lead to two points at 41-39 but Rider quickly reasserted itself and extended the lead to 53-41 with 13:04 left to play.

UD senior guard Calvin Cannon scored 19 points, hitting three three-point baskets, to lead the Hens. Junior forward Herb Courtney had 13 points and six rebounds and freshman Darrell Johnson had 11 points and five rebounds.

UD will return to action with a game against Cleveland State University at 1 p.m., Sunday, at the Bob Carpenter Center. That game will be a rematch of last year's Bracket Busters Tournament game won by Cleveland State.
